The General Management & Business Acumen Simulation

Overview:

Organizations today, more than ever, in these tough economic times, need managers and employees who can contribute to the financial success of their business. They are expected to think and act like business owners; able to see how they fit into the company and how their actions affect the bottom line. That’s what “Business Acumen” is all about.

Business Acumen tackles the three competencies that need to be mastered by any true business leader:

However, teaching Business Acumen can be a very dry & boring topic, that’s why “BYB”; the experience that will engage your people in the business world & its decisions like nothing else!

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this workshop attendees will be better able to:

  • Understand & see the inter-connectedness & impact of business decisions among the different functions
  • Understand and manage effectively the three axes of strategic execution:
  • Competitive analysis  2) Financial Acumen   3) Market Trends
  • Read & understand P&L statements
  • Know how to use financial data for more effective business strategies & decisions
  • Know how to choose the best growth strategy according to business & market status
  • Apply business acumen in a real-world context

Workshop Journey:

The workshop starts by a one day training on essential financial concepts for non-finance people. The second day will be 90 minutes of playing the simulation, the de-brief

 

The Simulation:

Participants of (BYB) will experience the thrill of running business in a safe learning environment.

In groups, each group will be assuming the role of the organization’s CEO’s, who are in charge of building & growing their business through strategic business decisions.

Participants will be tested on critical thinking and effectiveness of their individual strategies to make the most net profit at the end of the simulation.

  • At the beginning of every round in the simulation, the CEO makes decisions in six different functional areas:
  1. Human Resources
  2. Production
  3. Pricing
  4. Marketing
  5. R&D
  6. Banking

And upon their decisions they get to see the impact of their decisions on the overall revenue, market share, and customers’ satisfaction! And the three goes on for – ro, till the end with the winning team who managed to make the highest success!

The De-Brief:

The de-brief highlights the experiences learners witnessed through the simulation, & how to use the grasped insights as areas of focus for future application in day to day work & strategic decisions:

  • Importance of market sensitivity for monitoring changing needs & trends
  • Managing Competition
  • Building on financial data for deciding appropriate business strategies
  • Making the best out of opportunities & challenges
  • Choosing the right growth strategy according to company and market status
  • Creating, delivering, and capturing value
  • Optimizing service portfolio and margins to capture the market
